Collaboration with Kevin Mancera www.volcanmudo.com
Wood, steel, mirrors, lenses, video projection, drawings and other materials, 2019.
This installation is inspired by early modern perspective boxes and peepshows. The installation depicts violence between animals, humans and nature. It consists of a peepshow box (or raree show) inside a peepshow box inside a peepshow box, which again is housed inside an enormous box, which is the site where the installation can be viewed - respectively at the Brakke Grond in Amsterdam and Vandenhove Centre for Architecture and Art, Ghent University. Through viewing holes and lenses, the viewer can look at drawings and a video installation. Mirrors inside the installation offer an indirect view on the drawings and confront the onlooker also with his or her own gaze (and of other visitors), when peeping into the holes of the box (in the box).
With courtesy to the Film Museum Eye, Amsterdam. Produced in the context of Imagineering Violence, an academic event organized by ITEMP Research Group, imagining violence in art (17th century and today)
